• Agree to only access the internet in a shared family location (including laptops), not in bedrooms.
  • Treat passwords like toothbrushes and never share them with anyone, except with parents if that is part of your agreement.
  • Personal information is exactly that... personal. Children need to check with their parent/caregiver before giving out any personal information or before signing up for anything online.
  • Agree on which websites are permissible and which ones are not.
  • Consider setting up a family email address which can be used if your children want to sign up for online competitions etc. Agree to discuss anything which requires the sharing of personal information before signing up.
  • Sit with your child at least every six months and use a search engine like Google to search their name in inverted commas e.g.: 'John Smith', look together at the information online that forms their digital reputation.
